About

Joyce Le MesurierI was born and raised in Singapore and originally trained and practised as a lawyer for many years in Singapore, HK and London. My love for travel and adventure was fuelled when I first travelled to the United States and to Europe during university holidays and thereafter the wanderlust set in. In 2000, I decided to have a break from the legal world to raise my young family and have never looked back! Since then, I’ve been exploring my creative side by learning how to paint, taking up flower arranging and pottery and since 2013, taking up photography seriously.

I am passionate about travel and photography and have a great spirit of adventure, having travelled extensively to many countries in Europe, to Iran, Israel, Myanmar, Bhutan, India, Nepal, China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, Turkey, Guatemala, South Africa, Namibia, Ethiopia, Mongolia, and chasing the Northern Lights in Norway and the Swedish Lapland.  My particular passion for portrait photography, cultural festivals and learning about indigenous and disappearing cultures has led me to  meet the lovely people of Bhutan, the Sami people in Jokkmokk, Sweden, the Mayan people in Guatemala, various tribes in rural villages in India, Nepal and Africa, and to the Golden Eagle Hunters in rural Western Mongolia.  I am a visual storyteller and enjoy sharing my experiences through my photography.  I also enjoy shooting landscapes, as well as the cultural and religious festivals in multi-racial Singapore.

During the Covid pandemic when international borders were shut,  I explored the nature parks and reserves in Singapore and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of open spaces, wildlife and birdlife in urban Singapore. It was a very soothing balm to be in tune with Nature at a time when the world lived in fear of death, serious illness and a fear of the unknown. I was humbled by the many lessons that Nature taught me.  Bird and wildlife photography now feature in my photographic repertoire and once border restrictions were completely lifted, I have travelled to Malaysia, Thailand, Namibia, Japan and Borneo to enjoy the variety and beauty of different birds and wildlife.

I have  been commissioned by a boutique hotel in Singapore and by private individuals to produce a series of photographs for their homes and walls.   I am also commissioned to do individual and family portrait photo shoots, which I enjoy very much.  I have participated in various exhibitions and my photographs have been purchased by an international clientele.

I hope you will enjoy the photos on my site–if you would like to order any images as high quality prints/arrange a photoshoot/have any comments/suggestions/just want to chat about photography, please do get in touch. I would love to hear from you!
