While exploring the side streets within the Blue City of Jodhpur, so-called because of the strong blue colours of the walls of houses within this quaint quarter, encountering this smiley Rajasthani lady standing in the doorway of her house was a bonus. She was almost a parallel image of the painted woman in the mural on the wall of her house. The shot was unposed and I was lucky with my timing; immediately after I’d taken the shot, she turned to retreat into her house.

Morning shoot at a village outside Rawla Jojawar, Rajasthan, India. 15 Jan 2016
I shot this portrait of the man with his opium pipe in a remote village outside Rawla Jojawar in Rajasthan, India. The village was a very poor one with no electricity in virtually all the houses. Firewood was used to light fires for heating purposes and cooking food. The walls of this man’s hut had been darkened by soot from the fires. I think he was eagerly anticipating his opium fix and, understandably, seemed a little irritated that I wanted to take his photograph. 15th Jan 2016
